Playing the chanter on the ramparts of Urfa Castle, at roughly the point where, according to Muslim tradition, Abraham was thrown off into a fire at the bottom of the cliff, which God transmuted into a pool filled with carp before he landed. It was about 40 degrees Celsius when this photo was taken. There was a thunderous Kurdish wedding party in progress on the other side of the hill, with the drums and shawms audible for a mile or two.
